Hymn Devotional

My Faith Looks Up to Thee

Ray Palmer wrote this poem in 1830. One day he met Lowell Mason who was searching for any hymns that he could include in a music book that he was about to publish. Now Ray has written some hymns and he has also translated hymns. His main thought was that it would be used as a fine text that would be included in his book.

As we look at the poem, we see that it is mainly a prayer of his to his Lord.

  • The 1st stanza - This is a prayer for forgiveness, entreating the Lamb of Calvary.

  • 2nd stanza - Here we have him addressing God's grace. May it inspire us as well to show our love for Him as a living fire!

  • 3rd stanza - Here he is asking for guidance as we journey on through the difficulties of this life. For we need to show our love to Him so that we may never stray from His side.

  • 4th stanza - Hopefully this last stanza will be our prayer as well, that we shall look forward to the time that He calls us home.

Prayer:

Lord,

We are grateful for your grace that you have provided for us. Our goal should be belonging to you completely. We want to be wholly thine.

We ask that you will increase our zeal for you as we dig into your Word more. May it become a habit that we need this feeding on a daily basis.

With this world growing more evil, guide us as we try to brighten the paths around us. We want others to see our path and that it is filled with daylight because You show us the path. Continue to help us see the dark maze and turn it into daytime.

When we are finished with this life, may You bless our work that it may have an impact on those around us. For our goal is to share Your love with others. Time is short, but bless us as we continue to press on to our Promise Land.

Amen.
